Job Summary:
Michigan Radio based in Ann Arbor, Chicago Public Radio, and idea stream Cleveland are teaming up to look at the economic transformation that is needed in the so-called “rustbelt region.” The Reporter produces feature reports, occasional spots, blog entries and other content for air and web distribution related to the collaboration.
Duties and Responsibilities:
•Works with Project Editor to produce feature reports, occasional spots, blog entries and other content for air and web as assigned. •Participates in editorial discussions and listening sessions with editor and representatives of project team as assigned. •Generates and pitches original story/segment ideas for the project. •Posts stories, blog entries, photos and web content as assigned. •Participates in community events related to the project as appropriate. •Contributes to roundtable discussions of events and issues. Conducts live debriefs with partner station hosts as appropriate. •Assists in training/mentoring of interns and other staff as appropriate. •Participates in on-air fund-raising. •Performs all duties in a manner consistent with the project’s high journalistic standards to ensure that that accuracy, thoroughness, and fairness are central characteristics of all content presented. •Travels as necessary. Requirements: Education Required:
College graduate or equivalent experience.
Experience/skill Required:
•Must have two years of full-time professional journalism experience with broadcast experience strongly emphasized. •Must demonstrate strong writing and reporting skills. •Prefer knowledge of broadcast equipment and digital editing. •Knowledge of new media important. •Knowledge of the economy and the industrial history of the Great Lakes states strongly desired. •Must have ability to meet deadlines and take direction.
